Bud Priddy One Fly Tournament

April 22, 2014 General News No Comments

I’m Walter Ross, the president of the Alamo Fly Fishers.  I hope each of you
and your clubs are doing well in 2014.  I’m sending this invitation out to the
Rockport, San Gabriel, Texas (Houston), Fredericksburg, Central Texas (San
Marcos), and the Austin Fly Fishing Clubs and hope that you will be able to
join the AFF for our annual one fly outing.  The Texas Fly Fishers of  Houston
invited the AFF to their one fly contest on the Guadalupe in January so we
thought why not invite the surrounding clubs to our event on the Nueces.

The Alamo Fly Fishers would like to invite members from surrounding clubs to
join us for our annual Bud Priddy One Fly Contest on the Nueces River on
Saturday, May 17, 2014. Registration will be 7:00am to 8:00am at Lindbergh
Park in downtown Camp Wood, TX. The registration fee is $20.00 and a duplicate
of the fly you intend to use. Fishing is allowed from 7:00am until 5:00pm.
Results are due before 5:30pm at the Casa Sifuentes Restaurant which is
located on the main street in Camp Wood. Dinner is included in the entry fee.

Prizes and certificates will be awarded for the Largest Bass, Largest Perch,
Most Bass Caught, and Most Perch Caught. The largest fish will be determined
by length alone so be sure to have a tape measure handy.

One Rule:

Select a fly. All fish caught on that fly only will count. If you lose the
your selected fly the contest is over, unless you can get it back. If so, you
may continue to count fish. However, once you lose your selected fly you can
continue to fish, but any fish caught on another fly will not count. All
results are on your honor. There are no referees or judges. Catch and release
is preferred.

BOFT Flyer 2014

News from our friends in Tyler

April 15, 2014 General News No Comments
The regular April meeting of the Lone Star Fly Fishers will be held on Tuesday, April 15, 2014 in Room 134 of the Tyler Junior College West Campus Main Building.
Our program for the evening will be a presentation on wilderness fishing in Wisconsin brought to us by Jeff Watson.  Jeff is a native Texan who now lives in Wisconsin and is visiting family in Jacksonville this week.  Weather permitting, he will be doing lots of fishing on Lake Jacksonville and other area fisheries.  He has a slide presentation on a three day trip in the driftless waters of Wisconsin.  Also, he will be acquainting members on a fly pattern developed by John Bethke called the Pink Squirrel.
Several members have wanted to have a casting instruction and practice session and now that daylight savings time is on, we will have plenty of daylight to do this before the meeting starts at 7:00 PM.  As usual, those wanting to eat and fellowship will be meeting at Rudy’s across from the West Campus at 5:30 PM.  From there, we will adjourn to the east side of the Main Building for casting.
The April outing is scheduled for April 25 – 27 on the Blue River near Tishomingo, Oklahoma.  Hal will be discussing more on the outing at the meeting.  Should you not be able to attend the meeting and need info on the outing, please let me know.
